The best and worst of 2014

So 2015 is just days away and while we scroll past the "new year new me" posts we have to look back at some of the best trends of 2014 and some of the not so best.

Spring 2014

Florals

Flower power was perfect for the spring season. Florals appropriately trendy this past spring, were perfect when you wanted to add a touch of sweet to your outfit. Many added florals to their everyday wear this past spring and they were right to do so.

Sheer
This subtle detailing added so much "va va voom" to every fashionista's spring wardrobe. Sheer was perfect for spring this past year and proved it throughout the season. As we all can see!

Crop tops
If you haven't seen these, where have you been? Crop tops have dominated the fashion world in the warmer months of the year. Starting in spring 2014, crop tops continued to be huge in the summer season too. They are perfect for the hotter temperatures while still proving to be fashionable as ever.

Graphic

Fun prints were perfect for the season. They added some fun to the already fun season. Bold colors+ graphics= perfect outfit. Notice that the looks above are black and white which was perfect if you wanted trendy contrasting colors this past season.

And...Not so much...

Sporty sandals were going to be huge for spring. Perfect for all your outdoor needs? Personally, never liked this look. Unless you are going for a hike or something outdoors you should probably pass these by.

Summer 2014

Ahh sweet summer, the warm sand in between our toes as the waves crash against the shore. The only disappointment about this season is that it's over.

Full skirts

Summer was the time to be lady like and elegant with a full skirt. I have missed this look with all the tiny shorts and twerking. This classic look made a comeback this summer and I wish it could have stayed just a little bit longer.

Bucket bags

Bigger bags were great for summer. More room for important stuff, money, phone, snacks. I loved this look because of the convenience and the perfect look it added to any outfit.

Sporty

Even if you spent most of your summer in bed watching Netflix, this season was great for sporty looks. Summer was the time to grab your brother's old baseball cap to complete your outfit. (Don't worry you can just dress sporty you don't have to actually workout! It's like yoga pants nobody does yoga in them) :)

Fancy crop tops
Crop tops in the day time, crop tops in the evening, crop tops all day every day. Summer continued with the crop top but this time added an elegant twist. Adding a pencil skirt or even a full skirt like the one above was perfect to dress up your summer nights.

And...not so much...

Peek a boo undies

Never really liked this one. Yes the sheer is cute but nobody wants to see your Ralph Lauren undies, even if you want us to. Stick to layering and avoid the granny panties.

Fall 2014

Fall fashion in 2014 has brought back a decade of great fashion while bringing in new styles that were perfect for this year.

Mod 60's look

The silhouettes, colors, detailing all screams 60's and we screamed for joy right back. These looks take us back to the decade of Twiggy and fun fashion. Perfect throwback for fall 2014.

Cozy Fall Knits

This fall was the perfect time to grab your biggest sweater and bundle up. Heavy knits were huge for this past Fall, maybe not head to toe for the average Jane but definitely a must for the season.

Oversized coats

This fall bigger was better. Larger coats were huge this year. (See what I did there?) Some worried that a coat that lacks a strong silhouette would not be the best fit. I beg to differ because with this large coat you can eat as much as you want and nobody will ever know. (You're welcome)

Sneakers

Fall was the perfect time to grab your pumped up kicks that weren't necessarily pumps. Sneakers, flats, and sandals were huge in Fall giving fashionista's feet a break but still looking cute as ever. Note: your mom's ugly tennis shoes do not count for this trend :)

And... Not so much...

Extreme turtlenecks

Personally, I'm not a fan of the turtleneck in general. So the extreme turtleneck is not my favorite. To me, the turtleneck is too much to the overall look. I feel like it's a great addition to the fall collections but...

As I look back at 2014 fashion, I get so excited for 2015 fashion. The new year might not change the rude girl from high school but it's definitely going to change the fashion world. New year, new fashion!
Until then,

Magic Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?

Today is the day we celebrate the release of a Disney classic. Snow White. The tale released in 1812, marks its anniversary today after Disney created it's later version of the classic tale. And ever since then people have been recreating our pale princess's iconic look.
Many have made "Snow White" disneybound outfits that are perfect for any occasion.
Adding their own twists on Snow's look makes these outfits unique and fun. When going for a Snow White look, start with the basics. Red lips and rosy checks! Without that are you even Snow White?
Even long haired princesses can get snow's sweet short do with a few hair tricks. Short and curly is perfect for Snow.
When creating a Snow White look, always go for red, blue, and yellow. They are iconic colors for Snow White and help create the look.
But when you are snow make sure you are gentle and kind. You can solve almost any problem with a smile and a song. (Disnerds: you know what I did there)
By using some of Snow White's look, you can find your prince and probably piss off a evil queen in the process.

XOXO,

Beauty update

Need a little something to add to a stocking? Or just trying to find a trendy holiday look? Here's some ideas :)

1. Every girl wants full, dark lashes but this winter the focus is particularily on those lower lashes!
Consider purchasing a mascara that has a smaller wand so you can reach those smaller, lower lashes!

2. Nail polish. One of my FAVORITE things.
You could go with a classic, deep red or metallic silvers and purples!

3. A BOLD lip.
This season we're seeing lots of wine-stained colors and lots of matte shades!

4. Lastly, thick eyeliner AKA the tiger-eye!
The cat- eye is classic but this season it's amped up. Try a thicker line to get a more dramatic effect!

Hope these trend overviews were helpful!
Until next time,

Celeb Style Watch: Blake Lively

The time has come to talk about perfection in a person. The one, the only, Blake Lively.
I first remember Blake best from her role as Bridget from the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Although she played a sporty character, Blake always seemed to rock the role. (I wanted to be Bridget so bad when I was younger!)
Then in 2007, Blake got all eyes on her when she stared in the iconic TV show that every girl is still obsessed with to this day, Gossip Girl. She stared as Serena van der Woodsen along with Leighton Meester as Blair Waldorf. The two became the best fashion duo I've ever seen. Inspiring outfits for years to come.
In 2012, she married the gorgeous Ryan Reynolds after staring in Green Lantern with him in 2011. The couple became a fashion power couple and have continued to look perfect all the freaking time.
They have been relationship goals since 2012 and on October, 6th 2014 Blake and Ryan announced that they would be having their first child.
Thus begins the best maternity fashion from a celebrity we have ever seen.
So if you are stuck not sure what to wear or need some inspiration for your next outfit, check out Blake Lively and enjoy the many pictures of her gorgeous fashion-pregnant or not!

XOXO,
S

Trends of 2014

2014 IS ALMOST OVER. As crazy as it seems, we are half way through December and there are just a couple weeks of 2014 left. I wanted this post to kind of be like a recap of my favorite fashion trends from this year.

Firstly, the high-low skirts and dresses.

Next up, peek a boo cut outs!
Another trend we've seen a lot this year is crop tops!
And lastly, denim on denim!

Well that's it for today!

The perfect Christmas (Dress)

It's the dawning question. What to wear for your Christmas festivities. With decorating, baking, and buying presents, it's hard to find time to figure out what to wear. So...We got this!

Now, for Christmas you can never go wrong with a red or green dress. Christmas is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the festivities by wearing it's common colors.
Red is always a great option. Red sparkles/shine is the best option. The dress above is perfect for a holiday party or just celebrating with the family.
Just pair it with some silver heels and a sock bun and you have an elegant look for Christmas.
Red not in your color wheel? Try green! This retro number is so sweet for Christmas. Although it is fairly simple, you can dress it up with sparkly flats and blingy earrings.
This option just screams Christmas. Pair a colored long sleeve shirt with a white tulle skirt and some matching heels for a winter wonderland look. The tulle skirt adds a whimsical "nutcracker" look to it in my opinion that just makes it that much more Christmas-y.
Go a little more "scandalous" for Christmas with an open back dress. This dress is great for a holiday party with some friends and is perfect with gold accessories.
Red and Green not for you? Go blue, silver, or white! These colors remind people of winter and with this sparkly blue number people will turn heads. The pearls in the picture add a perfect touch and makes this outfit great for the holidays.

With any of the options above, you will rock whatever party you are attending/hosting and will show off your Christmas spirit. And if you have a NYE party... Three words... Black, gold, and sparkles.
Until then,
Happy holidays
XOXO,
S
